Course tutor: Samantha Schofield
What is the class? Get to know your sewing machine and make a beautiful envelope cushion with no pattern to your own dimensions. We will be stitching in the museum gallery on the 2nd floor at Pickford's House, a beautifully preserved Georgian townhouse a few minutes walk from Derby Museum and the Cathedral Quarter. Please note it does not have disabled access to this floor. It's a light, unique space at the top of the house looking down onto Friar Gate. The class is relaxed, fun and caters for up to 6 crafters.
What will I be making? The class uses sewing machines, pattern cutting without the use of a commercial pattern to either make a envelope style cushion cover or a cushion wrap (which is very fashionable in France and Italy and a great idea to add colour to your room). Once completed we will embellish our cushions. We will be providing pretty embellishments including ribbons, buttons so you can make yours your own style.
Take your own creativity and make textile decorative art for your home.
What level? Any level, no prior stitching knowledge needed. We will be using a variety of sewing machines as different models have a different way of stitching.
Do I need to bring anything? Please bring a cushion inner you wish to cover or a cushion for a wrap. Or we can provide you with a cushion inner at a small cost. All materials are provided including tea and cake.
Will I finish in the class? We aim to finish in the class but you can take your work home if you wish so you don't rush.
Can I bring children? Yes, the class is suitable for 10+ but accompanied with an adult.
The price is non refundable but you can pass your ticket to a friend if you cannot make it. Please check you can make the class before booking.
